20150322162836-plat_6 Private and Confidential
by
Mark Stammers at AE Contemporary Art Gallery > London
June 27th - July 11th
Posted 6/30/15

This exhibition is called Private and Confidential, the pieces are beautifully framed prints, that vibrate with luminous colour and luscious brush strokes, these seductive effects give a warm and enticing atmosphere to the imagery, but underneath is a certain and sudden shock as the mind realises the figurative imagery that challenges the imagination and beckons satire and paradox, and the cartoon, these seem to rent through the surface of appearances.....perhaps to comfort the knowing viewer wi... Adel Gorgy's work in Issues at Arts Guild New Jersey Contemporary art and social activism often swim in the same waters. The connection crosses borders and decades, as creative individuals—in art and literature, performance and song—have given voice, sometimes the only one, to victims of turmoil and iniquities. Issues, an exhibition in which a group of contemporary artists respond to political, social, racial, gender, and economic issues facing the world in recent years opened M... [more]

Zakkir Hussain at GALLERYSKE - Bangalore > India
January 17th - February 27th
Posted 1/21/15

Zakir Hussain’s latest works at Gallery SKE in Bangalore is a wonderful presentation of works to understand that originality can only be claimed as an unclaimed, seen as the other in the final omnipresent grand narrative of itself. The claim to originality that his works make in the beginning is by having a title ‘no title’. This is very interesting as the self proclamation of having no title negates the presence of the trace of the past. If there is any coincide... [more]

Rabindranath Tagore at National Gallery of Modern Art - NGMA Mumbai > India
April 19th, 2013 - July 15th, 2013
Posted 8/4/14

The total oeuvre of more than two thousand drawings and paintings were literally Rabindranath Tagore’s last harvest. Dated between 1928 to 1941, created by a man consumed, they are unlike anything else bearing his name, which would turn out to be their undoing. Disenchanted with being turned into an institute back home and a mystic world over, troubled by failing health and thoroughly shaken by the goings on in the family, the nation and the world, painting was both Tagore’s last ro... by
Mike Kelley at MOCA Geffen Contemporary > Los Angeles

To borrow a thought from Deleuze and Guattari, art is not chaos, but a composition of chaos that makes possible a wide range of unpredictable new emotions and ideas. It pushes at the borders of the imagination, inviting new ways of seeing, and sharping our capacities for critical reflection. Truly powerful art may even change how we perceive our world, and re-situate our agency within it. The Mike Kelley retrospective (currently on view at LA MoCA), reminds me of a quote by filmmaker David Lynch... [more]

Meredith James at Jack Hanley Gallery- New York > New York
March 15th, 2014 - April 13th, 2014
Posted 4/4/14

The red-and-white checked, anamorphic floor of Meredith James’s video installation Delmar, showing through April 13th at the Jack Hanley Gallery, primes viewers to expect a puzzle. The video triptych behind the green velvet curtains at the far end of the gallery doesn’t disappoint. As a form, the triptych can be traced from the painted altarpieces of the early Renaissance to modern films. Before the now standard use of widescreen in film, Abel Gance made use of a triptych format to... [more]

New York Kathleen Elliot Tenri Cultural Institute of New York by Dominick Lombardi Kathleen Elliot's glass sculptures straddle the line between ritual and playfulness. Her work, which stems from a love of natural forms, explores how the wonders of nature, big and small, have an indisputable calming effect on us as we muddle through the distractions of daily life. Works such as Whispering Vine (2008) recall ceremonial dance, as a circle of latticed glass, capped with upward-reaching leaves,... [more]

The exhibition is good, and congrats to the artist. A good friend of mine told me a rather disturbing story recently. He had been working with scott for years, and scott has helped him a great deal. Recently scott has not been able to sell as much art to pay his bills and has resorted to throwing events to sustain his gallery. Scott openly admits his failure, in his bathroom there is a painting that says 'BLACKBALL' which he says he got an employee to make in order to remind him how his ex-wife ha... [more]
