Description
This piece which I've entitled "The Relationship Between Things" is based on to put it simply, somethings that I like. I like a beautiful Asian incense stand from China and I have always loved Matisse's "cyclamen". Here I have repainted the cyclamen digitally and introduced a circular motif that runs throughout the image and worked it in order to make it better fit the beautifully shaped top of the incense stand. The shape of the top somehow reminded me of the simple shapes of some of the flowers Matisse used to paint, specifically, still life with aubergines comes to mind. If paintings are a relationship between colors shapes etc. etc. a painting can also be a dialogue with other paintings and other objects. How this is done, is up to the artist and the concept he chooses to express this relationship is at the forefront of the conversation.
