WORK was founded in 2010 as a pioneering multidisciplinary space located less than five minutes on foot from King’s Cross, and just a short walk from the design hub of Clerkenwell. WORK is part of a network of independent galleries in the area, including Gagosian, King’s Place, Victoria Miro and Parasol Unit.
WORK aims to present a broad gamut of artistic disciplines and practices, produced by leading international names in the fields of art, design and architecture. Collaborating closely with artists, such as Lucy+Jorge Orta, Bob and Roberta Smith, Rut Blees Luxembourg, Suzanne Treister and Krzysztof Wodiczko, WORK supports art that might otherwise remain inaccessible to the public, and reframes it with contemporary relevance in a wider political and social context. By directly involving the artists themselves in the process, curatorial themes are guided by their creative passion and insight, resulting in unique exhibitions that are powerfully expressive and engaging.
WORK is both a project and gallery space, running a comprehensive annual programme including regular exhibitions and special events. Limited edition prints created by the artists are also available exclusively through the gallery. WORK also publishes quarterly printed newsletter.
WORK launches on 31 March with a new exhibition by artists Bob and Roberta Smith, You Should Be In Charge. As part of the exhibition the artists will create a mural in the courtyard at WORK.
