242 Cambridge Heath Road
London E2 9DA
242 is a fully equipped ground floor gallery, located in a building formerly occupied by Wilkinson Gallery and, more recently, by Monika Bobinska Gallery on Cambridge Heath Road. A stone’s throw from Vyner Street, the gallery is in the heart of the East End gallery district. The building is a white-painted modernist-style ‘cube’, with a tall door and high ceilings.
The immediate area is famous for its cutting-edge galleries, as well as trendy venues such as Hurwendeki open air café and the renowned Bistrotheque bar and restaurant. It is within easy walking distance of Broadway Market with its shops, cafes and restaurants. The green open spaces of London Fields and Victoria Park are also close by, as well as the open-air Olympic size London Fields Lido and Regents Canal.
The gallery is directly on every collector’s and art critic’s route to Vyner Street, and is often visited by student art groups and art audiences in general.
There is a loading bay opposite the gallery. The immediate area is conveniently located for the following stores and services: builders merchants; post office; food; stationery; internet café; minicab; display graphics.
The gallery space is unusually flexible because of its regular shape, high ceilings and mix of natural and gallery lighting. This makes it very well suited to exhibitions of wall-based work, as well as sculpture, film and video.
