Tommaso Corvi-Mora is pleased to present new work by Pakistani artists Aisha Khalid and Imran Qureshi in their third two-person exhibition in London.
Both Aisha Khalid and Imran Qureshi studied at the National College of Arts in Lahore, specialising in miniature painting. Drawing mainly from the Mughal tradition, miniature painting in Pakistan is still taught following the traditional dictates of form and content. Qureshi employs traditional techniques adapting them to contemporary issues: his works has made reference to recent global events, from the occupation of Afghanistan to the war in Iraq, to the clash between Eastern and Western culture. Qureshi will be exhibiting new miniature paintings.
Aisha Khalid has produced four new miniature paintings that she will be showing at Corvi-Mora. Khalid and Qureshi's work was recently included in "East-West DIVAN: Contemporary Art from Afghanistan, Iran & Pakistan” (La Scuola Grande della Misericordia, Venezia); “Living Traditions” (Queen’s Palace, Bagh-e-babur, Kabul); "Karkhana - A Contemporary Collaboration" (The Aldrich Contemporary, Ridgefield, CT).
