Noel Lobley, Ethnomusicologist at the Pitt Rivers Museum (Oxford) presents images and short clips from Xhosa initiation ceremonies in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. This is a fascinating calendar-based coming of age initiation for young Xhosa men with fantastic fantastic, costumes and music.
Noel Lobley is an ethnomusicologist, musician and sound curator who currently works at the Pitt Rivers Museum, University of Oxford, where he is developing interactive projects for the museum's sound and music collections.
