> DESCRIPTION

Exorcising The Fear: British Sculpture From in the 50s & 60s takes as its starting point the 60th anniversary of the 1952 Venice Biennale which formed a seminal moment in the history of British sculpture.  The exhibition will include works by Lynn Chadwick, Kenneth Armitage, Reg Butler and Eduardo Paolozzi. These sculptors, since labelled the ‘geometry of fear’ sculptors after the introductory essay by Herbert Read, were seen to be responding to the climate of anxiety in a post-war Britain. This exhibition will offer and exciting opportunity to re-examine their works and the impact of that period on subsequent generations of sculptors.
