Andipa Gallery is proud to present our next contemporary exhibition Be-Head, a show in which the YBA artist Gavin Turk, among other contemporary names, confront the traditional genre of the portrait in a variety of new and unexpected ways.
The show that commences 18 November and runs until 15 December is an exciting new move by Andipa Gallery who have been operating from their Knightsbridge premises for more than 40 years and are more widely known for modern and contemporary masters such as Picasso, Matisse and Damien Hirst.
Claire Mander, Curator of Special Projects for Andipa Gallery comments:
“The Be-Head artists have seemingly all walked the long corridors of the museums flanked by exquisitely executed portrait busts of stylised Egyptian rulers, Roman emperors and Romantic heroes. However Be-Head artists confront the genre of the portrait head on with a refreshing vitality in the mixture of classical and contemporary sources and an immense physical and mental investment in the process of representing the quintessence of the human condition.”
Full Artist List: Gavin Turk, Emily Young, Søren Dahlgaard, Peter Burke, Sam Bakewell, David Buckley, Damien Meade, Shivashtie Poonwassie
