Upper Gallery

A presentation of new work in which the phrase ‘group show’ is taken literally; where grouping, showing and literalness itself find meaning in their own self-evident paradox.

The gallery is divided into groups of works. A collection of photographs, literally linked together, depict an individual in a staged environment seemingly lacking any obvious engagement with their surroundings or with the act of being photographed. Two paintings depict ostensibly unrelated imagery, linked by presentation or by their literal technique.

A digital slide show of each of the paintings from the project 84 paintings, a collaborative work between Morag Keil, Fiona Mackay and Manuela Gernedel shown earlier in the year at Wilkinson Gallery, re-presents a group project, regrouped and re-projected.

A mobile phone lies apparently charging in the gallery space.

Morag Keil (b. 1985) studied at Glasgow School of Art. Recent exhibitions include 84 paintings at Wilkinson Gallery, London (2010) and Wiels Project Space, Brussels (2009) with Fiona Mackay and Manuela Gernedel, Out Of Your Head a solo exhibition at Embassy Gallery, Edinburgh (2010). Morag has also exhibited in Frankfurt at the Caribic Residency and Neue Alte Brucke gallery and in Amsterdam at Grimm Fine Arts. She co-founded ourtv with Manuela Gernedel and recently made an online publication for (2009).
