Making History began in the aftermath of 9-11 as an attempt to create a record of daily events in a time-based format. Using the Roman calendar, Wilner chooses a news event of interest to him each day and makes a drawing during that day on the appropriate part of the composition. Over the course of each month the images coalesce into a composite drawing that combines elements of cartoon, portraiture, cartography, typography and a smattering of poetry concrete into a surrealistic whole.
Made over the course of 2009, using the Guardian newspaper as a point of reference, Martin Wilner 's 'Making History: UK' is his first series from a British perspective.
Wilner's work can be found in numerous public and private collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Jewish Museum in New York City, the Vassar College Art Library, Deutsche Bank, Warner Bros., The Sackner Archive of Visual and Concrete Poetry, and the Cartin Collection.
