The School of Art+Design at Purchase College, SUNY seeks candidates for the position of Director of the School beginning July 1, 2013. Applicants to this position should possess significant leadership experience within a professional art school setting, preferably including both undergraduate and graduate programs. In addition, candidates are expected to be accomplished artists or arts professionals with substantial higher education teaching experience, enough to qualify for a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at Purchase College. The salary for this position is commensurate with experience, and includes a location stipend and full benefits package.
Our ideal candidate will be comfortable working and thinking across disciplines, having interests and experience that extend beyond his or her specialty, and encompass broader approaches to art practice and human knowledge. Responsibilities include oversight of 20 full-time and approximately 50 adjunct faculty members as well as seven full-time staff members. The School houses over 500 undergraduate and 16 graduate students. Curricular oversight is paramount, with the required budgetary, programmatic, facilities & safety, and organizational understanding to deliver a successful NASAD-accredited professional program.
Other duties will include interacting with the Neuberger Museum of Art, representing the visual art and design disciplines within the College and the community, as well as working closely with the Dean and VP for Advancement, maintaining external relationships as they relate to the visual arts and design, including supporters, donors, friends, and patrons.

A terminal degree (MFA) in a studio discipline or commensurate professional experience is required. Evidence of effective leadership and increasing levels of responsibility in a professional program in visual art and design—including demonstrable curricular, budgetary, and external relationship management experience, as well as strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills—is required. Experience teaching at the college level, demonstrated by at least six years of professional art program teaching experience, full-time, at a commensurate rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, is also desired.
