Labor Robert, ESPACE PERSPECTIVE, 2012, Digital re-reading of original oil and acrylic painting on canvas.
Labor Robert has painted for over forty years, and his oeuvre has evolved, diverged, and reconverged over the decades. "Sampling" from such canonical styles as Constructionism, Cubism, and Expressionism, Robert's work forms a hybrid, a quiet dialogue with art history. Currently, by photographing and manipulating his past works, he is engaged in a re-reading of his own painting history by digital means. The piece pictured above is a digital artwork, meant to be printed on paper or plexi, derived from Robert's original painting, the PART-OVER number 12. Labor Robert lives and works on Réunion Island and Boulbon, France.
