Bad Behaviour show review
Oct 2012
On the walk from Brixton train station to visit Bad Behaviour, past clothes stalls, car mechanics and food wholesalers which operate underneath the arches – including the wonderfully named ‘Just Yams etc.’ – I wondered how this group exhibition was going to position itself. Would it attempt to engage with the context of Brixton, its independent spirit and history of rebellion and rioting – or was the ‘bad behaviour’ of the title indicative... [more]

Flowers gallery in the heart of the west end currently has not one but two intriguing exhibitions on at the moment. When other galleries are slowing down in the summer months or just showing works they have in stock flowers gallery is coming alive (quite literally with some of the pieces of animated works).
On the ground level is a show that any lover of photography should see. It has iconic and resonating images from Edward Burtynsky, Nadav Kander & Robert Polidori.... [more]

For a “leading contemporary” photographic competition deemed “one of the most prominent exhibitions” at this gallery, the experience is decidedly underwhelming. The nominees may well be worth the £30,000 prize, but the scant offering leaves visitors with little indication why. With photo-documentaries dominating the line-up, originality has taken a back seat.
The series ‘Eleven Blowups’ (‘06) by Sophie Ristelhueber drew interest with its “layers of construction and destruct... [more]

The month of August for London is the holiday month for London in regards to art. Not so in Hackney. A group exhibition at Fold Gallery this month curated by three artists that are also in the exhibition. As far as summer exhibitions go this is set up for a bland, over-hanged space with absolutely no room was made for cohesion. It was a surprise that Unrelated Oxides exemplified a focus in a group exhibition. The premise of the exhibition is a correlation with a quote, by Sebastian Faulks, that d... [more]
