The Fairman Family at ARTHOUSE1 August 1st - August 28th
Posted 8/15/15

It isn’t often that you get the chance to look into the workings of a family of artists over three generations, laying themselves open to scrutiny and speculation on their relationships. With the age of the artists ranging from the mature seventies to the youthful twenties, the work is bound to be wildly diversified; from the skilled and honed creativity of one generation to the enthusiastic optimism of another, with all sharing a dedication to, and love of, the arts, each exploring and de... Organised with Middlesex University, DEN-City1 is part of The London Festival of Architecture, a month long celebration of architectural experimentation, thinking and practice. I’ m sure I... [more]

Louise Hopkins at Mummery + Schnelle March 19th, 2014 - May 10th, 2014
Posted 3/26/14

In this exhibition, Louise Hopkins continues her exploration of everyday surfaces, including maps, magazine pages, and photographs. In each case, Hopkins manages to find a way to deal with each surface/object such that it becomes converted into a painting. Her works on maps are a case in point. For one work, she has painted over all the countries on the map with blue paint, matching the blue of the sea. On first seeing the work, you encounter a monochromatic painting. Closer inspection reveals t... [more]
