by
9/12/14 Posted 9/12/14

We’re pumped to be doing our first #Instaresidency, where we hand over our Instagram to an artist for a week and let them sort out the rest. First up: digital artist and filmmaker Theodore Darst. Darst first caught our attention through an exhibition, Only Real, in 2014 and then on Instagram with his dynamic animations playing with form, depth, and Macklemore. Using a range of digital software programs from CINEMA 4D After Effects to Photoshop, Darst abstracts his subjects through addin... [more]

CARBONI ACCESI Poema visuale dedicato a G. A. Cavellini
by

“Carboni accesi” (Poema visuale dedicato a Guglielmo Achille Cavellini in occasione del Centenario del 2014) Muri caduti, arie sottili aleggiano vivide nel buio cupo della notte, inseguono curiose primavere andate prima di svanire all’improvviso. Ho attraversato labirinti oscuri che non mi fanno più dormire. Solo i ricordi non hanno peso. Camminare a passi stretti, cerco invano tracce di senso da dare alla mia esistenza, mi trascino i m... I used to live in a high rise apartment building in Chicago, Illinois that had an overwhelmingly large population of Jewish widows. I ended up becoming quite friendly with many of them. Cookie, Thelma, Harriet, Eleanor. A veritable stable of adopted Bubbies. I recently finished writing a fictionalized short story of some of these ladies for issue three of Majestic Disorder magazine. They were and are darling yentas, who elevated matzo ball soup to pure delight. My favorite part of my days spent in... [more]

Faye Dunaway is that kind of movie star that has a handsome formality stamped on her. She carries herself in monster proportions and when one hears tales about her it’s like hearing of an old legend like Beowolf. One choice epic about her is an incident concerning a young reporter from a British newspaper. The journalistic novice had not been with the newspaper for very long and in some cruel rite of passage was dispatched early on in his position to interview Dunaway on her life as an a... [more]

New York City has always been a draw for an eclectic mix of artists working across the visual and performing arts. Its underground pubs and speakeasies, expansive loft spaces, museums, sidewalks, and streets have served as creative inspiration for all kinds of movements including jazz, expressionism, Fluxus, hip-hop, and punk. Despite all of that creative energy and expression, the city has also been a beautiful breeding ground for social and cultural dissonance. While New York may not be known... [more]
