WONDERLUST APT Gallery, Deptford 10-27 November (Late opening last Friday 25th Nov until 8pm) The scope of this exhibition: 'Humanity's hunt for the amazing, the epic and the unimagined' initially seemed too multi-faceted to formulate a coherent exhibition. However, the emphasis is not on the spectacular, rather man's often unquenched thirst for it, and this should be the explored facet here. Moreover, is it novelty or beauty we seek in our environment, does it have an evo... [more]

An open event for who?
by Lambeth Open
at A.S.C. Studios
November 11th, 2011 - November 26th, 2011

A lack of real visitors to our studios in Streatham. Not surprising since ASC aimed its pitifully small amount of marketing at an artists' audience, presumably to attract potential tenants rather than art buyers. I felt more like an estate agent for ASC than an exhibitor. Disgraceful when you consider their 'charity' status and obligations. [more]

Simon Burton at Arch 402 Gallery

Simon Burton is lost and blind. I don't mean this literally of course: he can see and at the time of writing he is in London, a place where he has lived for well over a decade, in his gallery (I'm sure he can find his way home). Metaphorically he is lost and blind though. This may seem like an insult to an artist, but it is not. In fact he has just told me so himself. All but one of the paintings in Nowhere Men are dark. Perhaps he is not totally blind, but he is in the dark. He can see eno... [more]

This was such a funny surprise. Walking along Piccadilly on a Saturday monring. I was suddenly outraged by the Tory posters overlooking the churchyard of St James's and wondered "how can it be", "where is the gallery", "how can someone put those posters there, right there, without planning permission".
Then looking at the front of the building with its brash cheque converter signs I again thought "no, you can't just do this because its a community centre - what is going on", and "where did this... [more]

Mark Dean’s exhibition at Beaconsfield consists of a back catalogue of 36 of his videos - Retrospective Jukebox - two large-scale installations, a sound piece and a single video piece, arranged over two floors. This is a retrospective of the artist’s work half way through his career.Dean has the uncanny knack of getting under your skin.
