Christina Mosegaard

Oil on canvas
105 x 92 x 5 centimeters
© Christina Mosegaard

Christina Mosegaard is primarily known for her paintings of the human face, closely trimmed and most often set in deep, dark colour tones. They are contemporary faces depicted through a century-old technique. An important theme in her works – whether the motif is the human face, flowers or her most recent motif: the fold/drapery – is the Vanitas-concept of the Baroque period. She examines in her works the contrasting powers contained within that concept: the juxtaposition of ephemerality and constancy, evanescence and eternity, and it is in this atmosphere of tension that her pictures are conceived.
