Art at The Rose Café
Since its opening in 1979, The Rose Café has been an alternative space art venue where hundreds of artists have exhibited their work. Over 200 exhibitions of both emerging and established career artists have been mounted under the direction of Karen Black during these twenty-five years. Local artists and artists from many states and other countries have been shown.
Of special interest have been exhibits featuring the work of children, at-risk teens, and mentally ill artists working under the direction of various non-profit organizations. The Los Angeles County High School of the Arts (LACHSA) will mount a student show in the fall of 2004. The fifth annual Woodcraft Rangers Photography Exhibit will be shown in the dining room later in 2004.
Public space art benefits the artist, the viewer and the space. When art is part of our everyday lives, we are enriched. The Rose has been a leader in its commitment to public space art exhibition.
Artists wishing to be considered for exhibition may contact Karen Black at 310-399-4736 or they may send photos, copies or slides of their work to her at PO Box 5188, Santa Monica, CA 90405. Kindly enclose a self addressed stamped envelope for return of these materials.
