Bleicher/Golightly and Hamilton Galleries are pleased to announce an exhibit by Mike Saijo, planned for June 2010. The exhibit will focus on Mike’s revisiting of the Contextualist art movement. It will feature a survey of recent works by Saijo reengaging the Contextualist ideal of deriving meaning in art from soci-cultural and historical context. The exhibit will include a series of collaborations with fashion designer and artist Puma Yoshie incorporating an exploration of ocean-culture context into the work, given the exhibit’s beachside location.
Saijo is known for his “book pieces” deconstructing pages of books and interplaying them with images upon text, he will be branching out to new areas for this exhibit including on-location installations, sculpture, and incorporating painting, glass and sculptural elements into his works.
