> DESCRIPTION

Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects is pleased to present our first solo exhibition of Nicole Eisenman’s work in the entire gallery space.  Entitled “A Show Born of Fear”, the exhibition will feature new paintings, drawings and prints mapping out a space were personal life and philosophical concerns intersect.  Eisenman, known in equal measures for her bitingly humorous attacks on art historical conventions and the relationships between the sexes, focuses in this new body of work on issues that reach beyond into fundamental questions of life and the future of humankind.

More than any verbal description the enclosed diagram by the artist captures the spirit of this new body of work (see below).

Nicole Eisenman’s work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Zürich, Switzerland; at Le Plateau le Frac, Paris, at The Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Ithaca, NY, at the Centraal Museum Utrecht, Utrecht, and at the San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco.  She was included in group exhibitions Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid, Museum Kunst Palast, Düsseldorf, Germany, K21 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf, Denver Museum of Art, Denver, Cleveland Center of Contemporary Art, Cleveland, New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY, the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, the San Fransisco Museum of Art, San Francisco, Frankfurter Kunstverein, Frankfurt, Le Magasin, Grenoble, France, Bard College Center for Curatorial Studies, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, UCLA Hammer Museum of Art, Los Angeles, Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami, FL, the Weatherspoon Art Gallery, Kunsthaus Vienna, Vienna, Austria, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, The Drawing Center, New York, Wiener Secession, Vienna, Austria, Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, England, among others.  Her work is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY, the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, the Denver Art Museum, Denver, CO, the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN, and the Ludwig Museum, Cologne, Germany.  She shows in New York with Leo Koenig, Inc. and in Berlin with Galerie Barbara Weiss.
