Artist Phil Lumbang’s work’s being shown on the 6th street wall at The Standard, Downtown LA. Phil’s bear illustrations have become a staple on the Downtown LA art scene. Over the next two months visitor’s to the hotel can enjoy viewing Lumbang’s pieces driven by the artist’s mission to spread happiness and smiles with his cartoon bears.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
As a child Phil Lumbang was obsessed and inspired by cartoons. His illustrations of bears, coined "awesome bears" by fans, spread a message of happiness and understanding. Initially the artist created the bear images for a woman he was trying to woo, in doing so he realized that he had a passion for drawing the little fur balls. In 2009 he made his first print starring the characters he created and with growing public interest began forming the murals.
“I wanted to give the mural a sense of child like enthusiasm and wonderment, using bold lines and bright colors. I just want people to see it and smile, because at the end of the day that’s all I really want my art to do” Phil Lumbang”
