> DESCRIPTION
Crosses and Crossroads is a visual and performative meditation on the violence, pain, fear and death interlinking the global chain of women migrants.


Piedad and Laura graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Autonomous University of Queretaro (UAQ), Mex. They studied drawing and painting with Gilberto Aceves Navarro, Irma Palacios, and Andrea Ferreira; Performance Art and Public spaces intervention in X - Teresa Alternative Art, Mexico, D.F., among others.

They have participated in collective exhibitions throughout Mexico. In 2003, Piedad and Laura formed the Colectivo Malaleche. Since then they have exhibited several public art projects all related to social issues, including “Steps in the Darkness”, exhibited in public plazas in the Historic Center of the city of Queretaro, as well as in the Kuntshaus Gallery as part of the “Women and Globalization” conference in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato; in the Zócalo of Mexico, D.F., during the “International Day against violence towards women;” and in the Manuel Doblado Theater in Leon Guanajuato. Malaleche has also worked with Performance Art, including “In the name of the ghosts” performed in X - Teresa Alternative Art, Mexico, D.F., and in streets of the Historic Center of Queretaro City. As a group they presented the “RE - taking of the young ladies” within the II Colloquium of Contemporary Art entitled “Art and its displeasures”, in the Master studies of Contemporary Art of the Faculty of Fine Arts, UAQ in 2005. The group been funded through the program “Apoyarte” 2004 granted by CONECULTA Qro. They were recently selected to exhibit their work as part of the “X International Encounter – VI Latin American of Women in Arts Mexico - Spain 2006, in the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico, D.F. In the same year they presented “Death by Water”(Muerte X Agua) in the Museum of the City, Queretaro, Mex., and “Act forces suicide on” in .MX Arte Actual Gallery, Queretaro, Mex.
