Los Angeles, California – LittleBird Gallery is pleased to present Lisa Solomon’s first southland exhibition, “Over the River and Through the Woods”.  Incorporating themes of domesticity, nature and man-made environment, Solomon brings new meaning to the intricate doilies that bring us such fond memories of family.

The focus of Solomon’s exhibition at LittleBird is her gallery-wide installation incorporating hand-made doilies and repeating the motif by painting them directly on the walls, relating the idea of “nesting” to our larger urban surroundings. In taking this imagery out of the home and placing it into our shared urban spaces, Solomon asks us to open our eyes to the small signs of home while we travel through our natural and built environments. Perhaps, she suggests, we are always at home.

Complementing the installation, the gallery will also display her hand-stitched drawings. Breaking the boundaries of what we know as “crafting,” Solomon stitches directly on paper and found objects often leaving the back-side visible, the threads hanging proof of the labor and process involved. Her series of bed/chair and doily drawings draw on the relationship between environment and self, representing the unattainable interior worlds in which we strive to belong.

In conjunction with Lisa’s exhibition, LittleBird Gallery is proud to be one of Atwater Village’s first art spaces to be involved in LA’s Eastside Art Crawl. The opening reception of “Over the River and Through the Woods,” on the night of October 13th, coincides with the heart of Art Crawl X’s schedule.
