> DESCRIPTION
León’s installation was realized during the socio political conflict in Oaxaca, Mexico that occurred from June to December 2006. It will consist of a “barricade dress,” a video projection, photographs, a sound installation, prints, and an outdoor installation. The exhibition dates overlap with first anniversary date of the uprising that culminated with a bloody battle in November 2006. It will be the first solo exhibition outside of Mexico for the artist León, who is based in Oaxaca. Some of the underlying questions posed, “How are countries with authoritarian pasts making the transition to democracy? And how is majority rule consistent with individual autonomy?” Bi-lingual catalogue with essays by Tyler Stallings and Mark Beam. Organized by UCR Sweeney Art Gallery, and curated by Sweeney Art Gallery Director, Tyler Stallings.
