Versatile David Mac Innis, who has spent his life in the visual arts from fine painting and printmaking to advertising and design, has subtitled his Walker Gallery exhibition Images in paint, pen, press, photo & pixel.
Throughout his career, he has explored different approaches to creating images or, as he says, “letting the subject dictate the means.” The result can be a large abstract painting, a pen and ink sketch, one of many different styles of printmaking or, in recent years, using a computer “to explore various aspects of an image prior to the finish.” Examples of each are included in this exhibition.
Mac Innes notes that he lacks a “signature style” and that, although primarily an abstract artist, he also enjoys creating landscapes and representational work.
