> DESCRIPTION

On Sunday, November 22nd, a solo exhibition by FLORA KAO will open at HAUS with a preview reception for the artist from 4 to 7 p.m.

Flora Kao’s work transforms everyday structures into systems of beauty. In her installations, she indexes the movement of the body in space and creates musical forests from consumer waste. In her paintings, she obsessively layers grids - taken from street blocks, floor plans and electronic spreadsheets - inverting those human attempts to organize the world into imagery that instead resembles atmospheric landscapes and intricate tapestries. Ultimately - in Kao’s own words - she seeks “to inspire a heightened awareness of our relationship to technology and the built environment.”

Flora Kao now lives and works in Los Angeles. She received her BA in Environmental Science and Public Policy from Harvard University and her BFA from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. She has been in one group exhibit in New York and in various group exhibitions in the Los Angeles area. This will be Kao’s first solo exhibition.
