Smooth n Purdy Gallery is pleased to announce a closing reception for Wax Ecstatic, a collection of works past and present by Michael Hayden.
Hayden has been making encaustic/mixed media pieces since 1991. Fusing beeswax, pigment and pine tar resin, he incorporates distressed antique hardware and a variety of metals to create abstract landscapes rich with color and emotion. Inspired by a variety of artists and styles, his work radiantly offers a new vision for something familiar.
Through the years, the artist has worked with a variety of philanthropies, including Heroes For Autism, among others. With this exhibit he continues to support PAWSLA. A portion of sales on opening night will benefit the organization.

PAWS/LA is dedicated to preserving the healing bond between disenfranchised individuals and their companion animals; enriching their overall quality of life; and sustaining their independent living.
The organization was founded in 1989 in response to the companion animal-related crises faced by residents of Los Angeles County who were financially and physically debilitated by HIV/AIDS. Since that time, the agency has expanded its scope to assist low-income seniors and any low-income individual living with a chronic or life-threatening illness.
