EGO - a study in portraiture - part 01 : photography
Centuries ago, where it all began : the cave wall, featuring the first
portrait of man and beast. Throughout the ages the portrait has been
one of the strongest means of expression, a single image that tells a
story or conveys feelings about an individual. Faces rendered to
portray power or loss, mystery or discovery, and countless nuances,
from the poetic to the base. Jail Gallery presents 8 artists for “Ego,”
starting a conversation exploring the human condition. What does
portraiture mean in this day and age of overstimulation? How to depict
the modern soul that makes one actually stop and look, and consider its
effects?
