> DESCRIPTION

The Orange County Museum of Art will present the works of Gao Shiqiang and Chen Qiulin as part of the 2009 China Festival Ancient Paths: Modern Voices. This exhibition pairs video work by contemporary Chinese artists Gao Shiqiang and Chen Qiulin, whose artistic visions capture the collision of tradition and modernity in China in distinct ways.

Gao Shiqiang's epic Butterfly Lovers (2006) is a tragic love story that serves as an allegory for the new millennium, and Chen Qiulin's Color Line (2006) is a sublime meditation on rapid urbanization and development in contemporary China.

For more information on the 2009 China Festival, please visit the The Philharmonic Society of Orange County or Carnegie Hall websites.

The 2009 China Festival Ancient Paths: Modern Voices is produced by Carnegie Hall, New York in alliance with the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, and is presented on the West Coast by The Philharmonic Society of Orange County, Costa Mesa, CA. The OCMA presentation is organized by curator Sarah Bancroft.
