FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Steven L. Anderson
We Grow by Searching
Moorpark College Gallery
August 28 - September 24, 2009
Gallery reception for the artist: Thursday September 3, 6:30-8:30pm
In his first solo exhibition, Steven L. Anderson takes us beneath the surface to explore the root systems of plants. Large ink drawings reveal fluid forms that create connections and construct pathways--searching their way, guided by inspiration and chance.
When the soil in which we grow becomes transparent, we see that these natural systems are not so much an anchoring, hierarchical phenomenon as a spreading, rhizomatic, environmental exploration that follows every possibility. Plants, in fact, can move through time and space.
Steven's career as an artist has been a cycle of collaborative and individual production, focusing on the nature of power and the power of nature. Based in Los Angeles, his work has been exhibited at the Craft and Folk Art Museum, Machine Project, Outpost for Contemporary Art, Roark, and Sea & Space Explorations in Los Angeles; and Southern Exposure and Balazo/Mission Badlands Gallery in San Francisco. Writings and projects have appeared in Cakewalk magazine, the Journal of Aesthetics and Protest, and Bridge magazine; and online at www.Artists-At-War.com. Steven’s work will also be featured in a concurrent group exhibition, “Black and White,” from Sept. 12-Oct. 10 at the gallery inside Bughouse Art & Design, 5046 Eagle Rock Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90041. 323.640.0234 Visit www.bughouse.com
