> DESCRIPTION
For the exhibition Flaneurs,
four artists were invited to begin a dialogue with each other
concerning possibilities that might engage the contemporary flaneur.
The artists - Gul Cagin (Turkey), Jon Flack (US), Shaun Gladwell,
(Australia) and Gustav Hellberg (Sweden) - all of whom have conceptual
linkage with the idea of the observing stroller through society, were
asked to develop work for this show and further to establish common
crossover points, shared perspectives, etc and from that, to establish
between themselves how the viewer might encounter and engage with the
exhibition, as an act of flaneurism themselves. Each artist has arrived
at a different location with different modes of transport - collages by
Cagin, painting for Flack, video and drawing for Gladwell, sculpture
and video for Hellberg. Although not necessarily encountering a
specific city the works allude to a general perceptual experience of
movement through the world.
