ANTONIO ALMENA

LittleBird Gallery  is please to present Los Angeles based photographer Antonio Almena .Born in Puerto Rico, raised in Los Angeles, Almena is influenced by the people he sees on the streets, skateboarding culture and graphic design. His last series ,stunning black and white images called “Fanon” where an exploration of potraits based on the writings of Frantz Fanon. In his new series he turns his camera on a different subject, landscapes.

Hard Wired is a further exploration in subjective portraiture. The goal was to allow the process to define the portrait. From subject matter till the moment the shutter was activated, Almena wanted all  past habits and training to be as close to nil as possible so as to allow the moment to influence all his decisions. As he was shooting for the show, he found that allowing the moments to present themselves was not only liberating to the creative process, but also the moments that presented themselves were rich with life and spontaneity.

The portraits presented to you are the culmination of his willingness to explore new territory and share them with you the viewer. We all need to be reminded of the quite moments that influence us; a child’s stare, a loved one’s glance, childhood aspiration’s, and the reminder that the conversation will have it’s day of completion.
