Using oil paint and galkyd, Michael Brunswick creates lush, glossy
paintings that are the visual equivalent of experiencing a rich
dessert. Organic shapes flow into each other and possess a colorful
lustre, like tiny bubbles in oil in the sunlight. While the paintings
are as slick as any glossy photograph, there is a lively variety of
texture and dimension to experience. Amorphous and mysterious, it is
as if the paintings herald the birth of a species rising up from the
deep blue sea.
Michael Brunswick received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Otis
college in 2007. Originally from Canada, his work is also at Gallery
One in Ontario. While attending Otis, his work was selected for Praxis,
a group show curated by Scott Grieger.
