Pursuing both art historical and pop culture references, Robert Heckes transforms every day consumer object with vast arrays, of colorful, vintage playing cards in his painting/drawing/collage hybrids. Utilizing the iconography of summer, Heckes draws inspiration from advertising and, the more current phenomena of Myspace, Friendster, and other continuously updated online sources to investigate appearance and sexuality.
Heckes has shown widely, with exhibitions at Postmasters Gallery in New York; LincArt in San Francisco, California; Di Rosa Museum of California Art, Sonoma, California; among others.
