Anna Helwing Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new
work by Kelly Nipper. The opening reception will be held on Saturday,
September 15, 2007 from 6 to 8pm. The gallery is located at 2766 S. La
Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90034. Regular gallery hours are
Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 6pm.
Kelly Nipper’s multi-faceted performance project Floyd on the Floor and the related research based performance studies, Sapphire, Circle Circle, and Weather Center,
examine the hurricane as a form of unmeasured movement presented in
relation to clock-time, human emotion, and the science of meteorology.
The second of these performance studies, Circle Circle, an installation, will be presented at Anna Helwing Gallery.
Circle Circle
references the form of the hurricane as it circles out from the eye.
The 2-channel video projection of a dancer practicing an abdominal
rotation movement (hip circles) emanating from the core of the body
parallels the movement of the hurricane. The two projections
simultaneously show the dancer rotating counterclockwise in real-time
and slow motion, mimicking the two meteorological fronts as they
collide over a large body of water and begin circling as one.
Kelly Nipper lives and works in Los Angeles and this will be her first solo show at the gallery. Upcoming exhibitions include Perspectives 158: Kelly Nipper at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, and Floyd on the Floor presented at Performa07 the second biennial of new visual art performance, New York.
