The City of Brea Art Gallery presents Hone From the Front, art from veterans of recent combat duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, on display May 23 – July 10. The public is invited to attend a free opening reception, with entertainment and refreshments, on Saturday, May 23 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Home From the Front creates a forum for those that have served in combat to express themselves. It is not uncommon for artists to comment on social and political issues, including America’s involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan. The exhibition will feature painting, photography, video, drawing, sculpture and ceramics. Many of the artworks will also be for sale.
In conjunction with the exhibit, there will be a Veterans Workshop on Sunday, May 24 from 12 – 5 p.m. in the Brea Art Gallery. Veterans are invited to drop-in and participate in this free workshop where they will take a uniform shirt and use it as the canvas for their own painting. Once complete, their works of art will become part of the Gallery’s exhibit.
