SUSANNE VIELMETTER LOS ANGELES PROJECTSEVENT
> QUICK FACTS
> DESCRIPTION
In the project space, Liat Yossifor presents paintings from her recent series titled The Dawning of an Aspect. Derived from Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Philosophical Investigations, the title refers to his theory of perception. Yossifor’s figurative landscape paintings require a slowed down viewing process to allow all aspects of the work to emerge. Her large canvases, monochrome in nature and done in a wet-on-wet technique, slowly reveal figurative masses rising from a singular color field. Inspired by cinematography and by paintings of Theodore Gericault, Eugene Delacroix, and Francisco Goya, these paintings both abstract and romanticize a landscape of war. They fuse the body and the landscape into a dramatic and pulsating union, appearing and disappearing based on the viewers movement in front of the canvas. Liat Yossifor graduated with an MFA from the Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects is located at |
