“And this I see…” is an impressive new high school student exhibit currently showing at the Craft and Folk Art Museum (CAFAM). This is the culminating art show from the students enrolled in the 8 Sundays Emerging Artist Program. The opening will take place on Sunday, June 3, 2007, 2-5pm, located at 5814 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90036. Complimentary admission to the opening and museum is granted at the front desk by mentioning the program. Visitors are welcome to view the show through June 19th, 2007.

8 Sundays Emerging Artists Program is a collaboration between Create:Fixate and Vox Box Arts Collective. It is designed to enhance students' creative expression, business savvy skills, and provide practical skills for a career in the visual arts.

Art students from a cross-section of Los Angeles participated in an 8 week course which included an array of creative professional guest speakers, group discussions, applied art, portfolio development and a visit to Avenue 50, a neighborhood gallery. Topics explored included marketing, framing, and a peek at careers ranging from professional photography, animation, to motion picture production design. Contributing speakers included Joe Vaux from the TV show “Family Guy” and Keith Mitchell - an Emmy Award winning production designer.  This special reception is to honor the accomplishments of these young talents.

The main wall of the exhibit features a group project where each artist was given a small canvas to utilize in a project exploring self-portraiture and the perception of the world from-the-inside-out in a new and innovative way. This autobiographical collection features photomontage, assemblage art, pen and ink, and color field works. Also included in this exhibition are selected works from several of the artists’ collections. Program coordinators Andrea Giardina and Janice Markham curated this exciting and varied exhibit.

Ambient music will be on hand courtesy of DJs AquaVee and Kenneth Graham.

Program contributors include Eagle Rock Center for the Arts, Craft and Folk Art Museum, Utrecht Art Supplies, Home Depot, and Trader Joes.
