Tall Wall Space of The University of La Verne Department of Art and Art History will present a temporary large-scale wall drawing by Los Angeles based artist Chris Oatey. Oatey's fountain drawing is an optical paradox that combines grand scale with delicate subtlety. The piece measures approximately thirty feet tall and was created with a template process that employed a giant quilt of carbon copy paper. Traces of halftone dots comprise an abstract, vertical stream of water that quietly situates itself with a nearly immaterial glowing presence.
Chris Oatey received his MFA from Otis College of Art and Design and presently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. His work has been exhibited at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI; Creative Artists Agency, Los Angeles, CA; Kent State University, Kent, Ohio; and See Line Gallery, Santa Monica, CA. Oatey has been reviewed in NY Arts Magazine, Artweek, LA Weekly and The Los Angeles Times.
