In recent weeks there has been much discussion in the national press and international press about Los Angeles as one of the new ‘centers’ of contemporary art.  Setting aside whether this is true or false, LA Ethos asks is there such a thing as L.A. Art?  What does that mean?  Does it simply indicate that a lot of emerging artists are based in Southern California or is there something else, something defining, something particularly ‘Angeleno’ in style, content or aesthetic approach that unites the contemporary art being made in the area?

Pharmaka Gallery has decided to explore this question in a unique way in the upcoming new show:  LA Ethos.
