Thousands of community members, arts enthusiasts, families, and folks just curious about what exactly goes on behind those metal doors will be found at the Santa Monica Airport on to March 28th, 2009 from 1:00 - 5:00pm when the City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Division and the Santa Monica Airport host the 3rd annual Santa Monica Airport Art Walk. Everyone is invited to meet some of the many artists who make the Santa Monica Airport a center of creativity.
The yearly event is eagerly anticipated not only by the many visitors who get the rare opportunity to see works in progress but also by the artists themselves who have found it to be a valuable opportunity to have their work seen by the public. In fact, many of the artists have sold their creations during the art walk, contributing to the arts economy that helps to keep Santa Monica one of the nation's most creative communities. Artists participating in the walk this year include noted local artists such as Fielden Harper, Jodi Fuchs, Michelle Oppenheimer, and Greg Gioiosa along with dozens of other artists. For additional artists whose studios will be open this year as well as images of their work please go to the Santa Monica Airport Art Walk website at http://arts.santa-monica.org/AirportArtWalk/AirportArtWalk.htm.
All along Airport Avenue between Bundy Drive and 23rd Street you'll find an array of private artist studios, the Santa Monica College Ceramic Studios and Art Mentor Program, and the Ruskin Group Theatre. All of which will be open to visitors during the Art Walk providing a unique opportunity to view the current work of over 60 local artists and explore the spaces where their imaginations take flight. Santa Monica Art Studios and the more than thirty artists working there will also be opening their doors to the public during the Airport Art Walk. You'll also find the Airport's two highly innovative galleries, The Sherry Frumkin Gallery and Arena One, in this converted airplane hangar.
