The Julie Rico Gallery presents INTERACTIONS, an exhibition focused on abstract expressionism featuring artists of the Bunker Art Group. The Bunker Art Group features artists from the former Soviet Union, with origins from the underground art movement there. The term bunker refers to the war bunkers that provided safety. The artists of this group have sought freedom of expression secure from government restriction.
The artists of the Bunker Art Group share the idea that art is the result of the artist's subconscious interacting with universal tools of creation. Interactions reflects the spontaneous nature of the creative process used by these artists. As the leader of the group, Kiki explains: "We do not think about what will occur as a result of the creative process. Instead, we have to be ready to accept our luck. Then something really new and original may happen."
