Circus Gallery and High Energy Constructs are pleased to present INVENTORY, the debut solo exhibition of LA artist Michael Decker.  The exhibition will be on view in the Circus Gallery Project Space through February 21.

For this exhibition, the artist demonstrates how transience can become permanence. Using a variety of collected materials and objects to create mythical beings and then photographing them, Decker presents personality-portraits with temporary sculptures. Similar to the subjects depicted in the portraits, these sculptures are simultaneously as permanent as they are fleeting; they are subject to the disassembly implied by human mortality. When these sculptural elements are RE-arranged differently and displayed alongside the original photographed portraits, they register as transformative objects unconcerned with form as crystallization.  The reorganized remains act as pagan tokens of remembrance and rebirth, showing both the beginning of a process, as well as an end.  Overall, Decker's artworks link the iconic simplicity of formalist thought with the metaphysics of spontaneous invention. Decker's diligently obsessive artworks develop out of a very distinct interest in a language-based, dream-like narrative, where caricature and satire combine with knowledge and processes.
