"RECENT WORKS," is a stunning exhibition of paintings by Richard Godfrey. As an established 'Arts District' veteran of downtown Los Angeles, Godfrey has been an intrinsic part of the contemporary art scene in Southern California over the past twenty-five years.
Godfrey's work is rooted in the tradition of the California light and space movement. One of the major influences on his work is the organic abstract artist Cllifford Stills. This new work continues his journey of investigation regarding the relationship of aspects of light and spatial perception.
Richard Godfrey's work has been internationally represented in galleries, collections, and museums including the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Laguna Art Museum, Musse d'Adzak, and most recently at the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing, Republic of China.
In this particular selection of work, Godfrey applies oil paint on white translucent sheets of plastic to create abstract paintings that are infused with color, depth and movement. "RECENT WORKS" combines the traditional aspects of formal modernism with the use of innovative materials to produce a series of paintings that are dynamic and bold.
The exhibition will be on view January 1 through Feb 14 , 2009.
A reception will be held on Thursday, January 8, from 6 - 9 pm during the Gallery Row Artwalk http://artscenecal.com/GalleryRow.html
