Patrick Lakey’s second solo exhibition at the Happy Lion takes the Marquis de Sade’s 120 Days of Sodom as its starting point—in order to address the consistently contemporary themes of power and violence and the languages through which we negotiate each. Reflecting on not only the continuing resonance of Sade’s work but also the ubiquitous themes of confinement, torture and abuse within the contemporary global arena, Mr. Lakey’s work replays Sade in multiple forms for the viewer. The exhibition includes a video, photography, sculpture and a book of days.
