David E Stone is a conceptual artist based in Los Angeles who has been active in the visual arts in California for more than thirty years as an artist, gallerist, and curator. Stone’s artistic practice is driven by his fascination with how reality can be perceived, both intellectually and physically. Using materials ranging from digital prints, paintings, neon sculptures, and installations, Stone’s work operates on multiple levels, from the humorously accessible to the curiously poetic. The work in this exhibition, Unanticipated Despair (Despite Prior Naïve Optimism), explores the impact to our native hopes and dreams after eight years of inexorable banality and distortion of truth. As we awaken from these dark years, Stone makes inquiry into who we are now, and the reality we find ourselves inhabiting.
