Los Angeles, CA December 2, 2008 - The Conference Room Gallery, is pleased to present Equations for a lifestyle, an exhibition of new paintings by the Los Angeles-Mexico City based artist Barry Wolfryd. This is Wolfryds first solo exhibition with the gallery. It has been 10 years since wolfyrd's last solo show in the Los Angeles area.
"Wolfryd's work focuses on the dual nature, whether it be the activists concern about US corporations' high level and extreme marketing into international markets, specifically those of and surrounding Mexico. Juxtaposed by the current US state of affairs where little focus was put by US corporations into their own infrastructure or survival at home. His use of subject matter shows the relationship and replacement or rapid eradication of Hispanic culture in both countries. Taking traditional religious icons and replacing them with items available at any grocery store or Mercado.
Wolfryd has studied painting and drawing from institutions both in the United States and Mexico. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in various museums and galleries throughout Mexico, Western Europe and United States. His work has been on display at The Diego Rivera House Museum in Guanajuato, MX and The Housatonic Museum of Art in Bridgeport, CT. Wolfryd has been selected for public and private exhibitions and collections including "Between two worlds" 2007, Palm Desert, CA Public Works and "Cow parade" 2005, Mexico City, MX.DF." - Albert Wang
