RAE THREAT: Trans Documentary Fundraiser Art Show
April 19th, 2014, 6PM – 12AM
Private Island, 1317 Palmetto St, Los Angeles 90013

LOS ANGELES - American born and Thailand raised, Rae Threat has already established herself as one of the most exciting artists in LA today.

Her alternative approach to photography uniquely combines the Underground Music, Queer Porn and LGBT communities, with Queer Porn Icon Courtney Trouble even referring to Rae as a ‘Celebrity Photographer’ to the Feminist and Queer Porn communities.

Rae is renowned for her ability to invert stereotypes and challenge views, becoming the first ever photographer to shoot Adult Film stars for a mainstream fashion lookbook (Mishka Fall 2011 and Spring 2012). Her first curated art show in 2011 (ALT to the ALT) featured key alternative adult industry members including Eon McKai, Courtney Trouble, the late Carlos Batts, Bob Coulter, and Kimberly Kane, and was featured as a highlighted exhibit with Month of Photography LA (2011). Her work was also showcased at the LA ART Show (2009), before being permanently archived in the USC Library.

Since then she has shot with artists including Diplo, Skrillex, Dillon Francis, A-Trak and Riff Raff; as well as photographing for Mixmag Magazine, LA Weekly, and Out Magazine. Her work has also been exhibited internationally from San Francisco to Turkey, Vienna and Berlin.

Filmmaking marks the next logical progression for Rae as she continues to grow as an artist, challenging views and finding thought-provoking subjects.

Rae's first documentary will combine her Thai heritage and LGBT activism to explore the transgender culture of Thailand, in particularly its response to and effect on Western culture. Rae plans to examine and dispel many of the stereotypes and myths surrounding the 'Ladyboys of Bangkok', showing how the effect of Western civilisation has been both a blessing and curse.

A fundraiser art show for the film, hosted by renowned artworld maven, Lenora Claire, will be taking place Saturday, April 19th at Private Island. Prints will be for sale and there will be a cash bar. Donations are highly welcomed.
