> DESCRIPTION
LA based curator SETH CARMICHAEL is converting the 3,500 sq/ft "Supreme Penthouse" at the brand new Biscuit Company Lofts in LA's downtown Arts District into a temporary gallery space that will showcase some of the most exciting voices in contemporary art for LA MAGAZINE and BISCUIT LOFTS' "DESIGN LOFTS 2007".
From newly discovered young artists such as JONATHAN EDELHUBER to widely admired figures on the gallery scene like JUSTIN BUA, SHEPARD FAIREY and GARY BASEMAN, Carmichael's ART LOFT 2007 will introduce the tastemakers of Los Angeles to the hottest artists around. The show will be open to the public throughout April.
There will be a panel featuring Justin Bua and several of the other artists on April 14 from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM and a closing fundraiser to benefit GenArt on April 26th.

Curators Statement: "I believe that we are witnessing one of the largest movements the art world has ever seen. This contemporary art movement, often described as "lowbrow", "underground" or "new fine art" is truly unprecedented in terms of size, scope, and mass appeal. The internet has enabled members of this community to connect and communicate at speeds yesterday's artists could never have imagined. The process of development and discovery has been changed forever. "The power of subcultures, which has so obviously shaped the worlds of music, movies and fashion for countless years, now presses a firm stamp on the fine arts as a new breed of artists comes of age simultaneously with a new generation of consumers who have become financially stable, are purchasing homes and desire to decorate them with things that speak to THEIR experiences. "For me, there is nothing greater than following the ones and zeros from one to another until I discover something new that I have never seen before, but speaks to me and those around me. My goal is to identify the new voices in contemporary art whether they are working on the streets of Romania, the galleries of Paris or at home in Arkansas and bring them to Los Angeles. This show includes work by some of the strongest artists I have found from France, Brazil, Israel, Canada, the UK, Japan, Portugal, Greece, Spain, Romania, the Ukraine and of course the USA." Featuring the work of Alexandre Farto (Portugal), Andreas Ragnar Kasapis (Greece), B. Gray (USA), BiL BetsOviC (USA), Blinky (USA), BUA (USA), Caleb Neelon (USA), Caroline Hwang (USA), Chad Mount (USA), Chris Yormick (USA), Codel (France), Colin Johnson (USA), Corey Sandelius (USA), Ectropion (France), Elizabeth McGrath (USA), Erik Foss (USA), Escif (Spain), Flip (Brazil), Gary Baseman (USA), HVW8 (USA/Canada), Ian Strawn (USA), J. Asher Lynch (USA), Jonathan Edelhuber (USA), Josh Heilaman (USA), Josh Taylor (USA), Joshua Clay (USA), Josue Pellot (USA), Joulu (Ukraine), Karen Preston (USA), Kenji Hirata (Japan/USA), Kettle (USA), Kiku Yamaguchi (USA), Klone (Israel), Know Hope (Israel), Labrona (Canada), Lauren Gardiner (USA), Legz (France), Leonard Croskey (USA), Malota (Spain), Matthew Curry (UK), Matthew Feyld (Canada), Mike Egan (USA), Mose120 (UK), Mutha (France), Nick Walker (UK), Oddzoo (USA), Paul Insect (UK), Paul8 (Brazil), Proto (USA), Ryan Bubnis (USA), Sean Christopher (USA), Sean McGaughey (USA), Shepard Fairey (USA), Sinboy (Romania), Sixe (Spain), Tes One (USA) Titifreak (Brazil), Trak'N (France), Travis Lampe (USA), WK Interact (France/USA), Yosuke Ueno (Japan/USA), Zdenek55 (USA), Zoe Langosy (USA), Zosen (Spain) About Seth Carmichael (www.sethcarmichael.com): Born and raised in Washington D.C. my taste in art is heavily influenced by a childhood fascination with Japanese animation, the black and white indie comic books of the 1980's, the literature of the Beat Generation, Jazz, the youth subcultures of skateboarders, ska, punks, ravers and graffiti artists of the 1980's and early 1990's and the music, fashion and design that exploded out of these underground movements, combined with the incredible fortune I have had to travel to many parts of the world and experience a wide variety of cultures. Always a consumer of contemporary art I recently moved to Los Angeles from New York and have been energized by the art scene here. Seeing an opportunity to bring artists from outside the immediate gallery network to a hungry and appreciative audience I have committed myself to getting the artists I love seen as often as possible.
