Sweeney Art GalleryEVENT
> QUICK FACTS
> DESCRIPTION
This exhibition will feature painted works that break free from the wall to emerge as fully-formed sculptural objects. As three-dimensional offspring of two-dimensional practices, they often share a family resemblance of materials and painterly aesthetics with their pictorial origins. However these mutant forms confront some unfamiliar issues and generate a fair amount of oddball comedy as paintings transplanted into real space. The artists in this exhibition work primarily within the tradition of brushes and pigments yet here have tinkered with the genetics of their medium and discovered what happens when you depart from the easel into the third dimension. Catalog available. Guest curated by Brad Spence, artist and professor of painting at California State University San Bernardino. Organized by UCR Sweeney Art Gallery. Catalog available. |
